- Sonja Sohn is finally opening up about her shocking exit from *Will Trent*.

- Her character Amanda Wagner died suddenly in the final moments of the April 14 episode.

- The actress admits she was surprised by the fan reaction to her exit and teases what's coming next for her career.

Less than a week after *Will Trent *bid farewell to one of its longtime main cast members, the actor is sharing a special message with fans of the show.

Sonja Sohn, who spent four seasons as dedicated GBI deputy director Amanda Wagner, broke her silence on the shocking character death in a two-part social media post.Ā While the decision to kill off Amanda has been met with some anger from the show's fanbase, Sohn opened up about the outpouring of love she has received in the past few days.

"I have been so touched, just so taken with the response to Amanda's passing," Sohn said in the first Instagram video, shared on Saturday. She went on to thank fans for sending "long paragraphs" of support, adding that the aftermath of Amanda's death has opened her eyes to the fact that so many people were invested in her performance.

In the second video, posted on Sunday, Sohn delved further into detail, hinting that her departure from the ABC procedural was not entirely her choice.

"When they give you the pink slip… you love up on your fans,ā€ she captioned the post.

In the video, she explained, "Once you get the pink slip, it’s just a job. I got a job like you got a job. It’s just a job. Actors are really low people on the totem pole when it comes down to the big structure. When you get a pink slip, you don’t ask about it. You just say goodbye."

Sohn went on to promise that fans will have plenty of opportunities to keep in touch with her via social media and a book that she's been working on. "You’re gonna learn about the first time I almost got written off a show on *The Wire*,ā€ she teased. "That’s part of the first chapter of my memoir. I got three chapters left to write."

She added that it is no easy task for an actor to "say goodbye to" one of their characters "whether we want to or not, whether we choose to or not."

She then indicated that there is more to the story of her exit but noted that it isn't necessarily the right "time to talk about the details." She noted, "One of the things I was taught through this experience of being Amanda and of being in this situation is she’s a much more thoughtful, reserved character than I am. When I engage with characters, we give each other aspects of ourselves."

Sohn said she plans to be "a little more reserved in [her] expressions" for now, but assured her followers that she will have "so much more" to share in the future.

"The best years are yet to come," she concluded. "Here’s to *Will Trent*. Here’s to Amanda. My god, what a character. What an honor and a privilege. So just hold tight. We’re gonna be alright. There’s plenty of Sonja Sohn coming up."

Amanda's death came at the tail end of the April 14 episode, "The Blank Expanse of Nothing." The character, who has served as Will's (Ramón Rodríguez) mentor and protector since the series began, was killed while secretly working with the FBI to track down the Commander, the mysterious young man linked to Adelaide Trevens (Mallory Jansen) and the cult-like group devoted to serial killer James Ulster. Will discovered her body after getting a call from Adelaide, saying she left him a gift.

In an interview with *Variety*, series showrunners Liz Heldens, Daniel T. Thomsen, and Karine Rosenthal promised that Amanda’s death will have drastic repercussions on the story going forward.

"Amanda has been the character who has protected Will for as long as she has known him," Rosenthal told the outlet. "So this gives us the opportunity for a completely new dynamic in the GBI, because her replacement will not have that same relationship with Will."

She added, "Her death had the most impact on the most amount of characters. It really sets everybody reeling from this enormous loss. So it’s such a reset for our characters in a way that is painful but exciting for season 5."

The same interview saw the showrunners hint that there's always the possibility for Sohn to return as a projection of Will's imagination, a story device that the show has previously used to bring back deceased characters.

"That’s always a little comforting that we have a mechanism by which we could bring people back if Will needs to work something out," Heldens explained.

In addition to her two-part video, Sohn used the comments on her posts to thank fans for showing their love, and addressed her appreciation in the Instagram caption.

"I cannot adequately express the overwhelming gratitude I feel for the @willtrentabc fans who have poured their hearts out on my page," she wrote. "I did my best to to respond to each one of you but the comments kept growing & i had some life on deck to live. Please know i am receiving & grateful for your precious attention and support. I promise to honor that by giving you something you can sink your teeth into & celebrate with me in the not so distant future."
